Air Force Combat Controller - Afghanistan A USAF Combat Controller (CCT), armed with a M4A1 carbine, pictured in Afghanistan. Note the PEQ-2 inafraredpointer/illuminator fitted on the M4. USAF CCTs, attached to other SOF units, played a key role in ousting the Taliban from power in 2001. They called in air strikes from AC-130s and from fast jets such as Navy F18s and F14s. They also performed air traffic control duties at seized air fields.
