Members of a US Air Force Special Operations Weather Team (SOWT) prepare to release a weather balloon during training.

The 10th Combat Weather Squadron trains and deploys combat weather personnel on operations around the world.

The 10th Combat Weather Squadron falls under the chain of command of the 720th Special Tactics Group, Air Force Special Operations Command, and is based at Hurlburt Field, Florida, with detachments around the United States.

Special Operations Weather Teams operate behind enemy lines in order to provide accurate and timely weather forecasts in support of special operations.

They also have a special reconnaissance gathering role.
