Officers with the Garden Grove Police Department Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT) team make entry through a doorway during training.

The unit was training at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, CA, with their U.S.M.C. counterparts in the Combat Center's Special Reaction Team.

Both units are tactical teams formed from hand-picked and specially-trained law enforcement personnel tasked with carrying out high-risk operations.

Garden Grove's SWAT team is part of the Police Department's Patrol Division.

It consists of a number of components, including entry teams, sniper teams, a hostage negotiation team and a unit that specializes in the deployment of tear gas to flush out barricaded suspects.

Weapons employed by the Garden Grove SWAT team include the Heckler and Koch UMP submachine gun, as pictured being wielded above.
