The Juneau County START is a special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team made up of the Sheriff's Department.

It trains to carry out law enforcement operations outside the scope of the capabilities of regular officers.

Like many domestic law enforcement agencies, Juneau County Sheriff's Department have received surplus military gear via the Defence Department's 1033 program.

This includes the International MaxxPro Navistar Mine Resisted Protected Armoured (MRAP) vehicle seen in this photo.

Designed for use in combat overseas, the MaxxPro MRAP is features a V-shaped hull to protect against mines and thick armor to protect against small arms and IEDs.
