A sniper with Pinehurst Police Department Emergency Response Team (ERT) prepares to fire his bolt-action sniper rifle during a joint training oepration at Fort Bragg, NC, October 2012.

The sniper rifle appears to be a Remington Model 700 variant.

Military rifles, such as the U.S. Army's M24 SWS rifle and the USMC's M40 series, are based on the Remington Model 700 design.

The Model 700p and 700p Light Tactical Rifle are the variants typically fielded by law enforcement units.

Also note the Peltor SWAT Tac headset worn.

These headsets feature microphones that allow the wearer to hear ambient noise as well as clearly hear radio transmissions while also protecting against harmfully loud noises.

As a sniper, this Officer will be in regular radio contact with the ERT team leader.

The Emergency Response Team is tactical team, or SWAT team, within Pinhurst PD's Tactical Patrol Division.

As with most SWAT units, the ERT is manned by Police Officers who carry out regular duties but who are also on call to respond, as a SWAT team, when the need arises.

The ERT consists of a number elements, including assaulters and snipers.
