San Bernardino County Sherrif's Department SWAT team is made up of specially-trained Deputies from its Specialized Enforcement Division.

The SWAT team trains for a minium of 38 hours per week in various drills, including room enty, the use of night vision devices, rapelling down buildings and from helicopters, hostage rescue operations and explosive entry methods.

Weapons used by the team include M4/AR-15 5.56mmx45mm carbines, MP5 9mm sub machine guns, 12-guage shot guns and 1911 .

The San Bernardino County SWAT team, along with the San Bernardino Police Department SWAT, took part in the operation that took down Chris Dorner, a high profile criminal who went on the run following a killing spree that left 3 dead in Los Angeles, Febuary 2013.

SWAT team officers surrounded a cabin in Big Bear and traded fire with Dorner.

Eventually, they deployed 'hot gas' tear gas canisters into the cabin, forcing Dorner to retreat down into the cabin's basement, where he reportedly took his own life.
