A Marine with the 2nd MSOB, MARSOC, takes aim with a M39 Enhanced Marksmanhip Rifle (EMR).
The EMR is a modified Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR), which is itself based on the venerable M14 7.62mmx51mm semi-automatic rifle.
The EMR features a variable-length stock, a Pictatinny rail for the mounting of various optics and an improved bipod.
The EMR is used in the designated marksman role ie to provide a medium range sniper capability to frontline units.
