A vital member of a 14-man MSOT, the JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) is an expert in calling in close air support / air strikes.
A laser designator, such as the Special Operations Force Laser Marker (SOFLAM), may be employed to designate a ground target for attack aircraft.
JTACs are also highly skilled in guiding in strikes through verbal commands.
Marine Special Operations Teams are part of Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC).
They carry out special reconnaissance, direct action raids, foreign internal defence and unconventional warfare.
