A Critical Skills Operator (CSO), a member of a MARSOC Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) provides security during an operation in Helmand province, Afghanistan, 2013.

MSOTs have been working closely with local Afghan military and police forces on joint counter insurgency operations in Afghanistan.

This MSOT operator is wearing a MICH 2001 helmet fitted with side rails and a NVG mount.

He is wearing a Peltor Comtac II tactical headset / ear protection.

His BDUs are in woodland camo pattern.

The Marine's primary weapon is a MK18 carbine fitted with Daniel Defense RIS II and a number of accessories such as EOTech flip-to-side Magnifier behind a EOTech SU-231 holographic sight, AN/PEQ-15 laser pointer, Surefire M620V LED light and KAC QD suppressor and fed from a Magpul PMAG 30 MAGLEVEL windowed magazine.
