A Ranger with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment takes aim with a MK17 SCAR-H during combat operations in Paktiya Province, Afghanistan, 2013.

The MK17 is a 7.62mmx51mm battle rifle that is a favorite among SOCOM forces.

It is both relatively lightweight and has comparatively low recoil for a 7.62mm weapon.

This Ranger's SCAR-H is fitted with a SpecterDR 1.5-6x scope, Insight WMX200 Visible Bright Light and AN/PEQ-15 Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Light (ATPIAL).

Note the amount of accessories attached to the Ranger's helmet.

These include a Element Advanced MS2000 strobe fitted atop the helmet, a GoPro camera mounted on the helmet's NVG shroud and a visible light mounted on the helmet's left side rail.
