Army Rangers take aim with their weapons.

The Ranger in the foreground is armed with a Mk 48 Mod 0 belt-fed machine gun.

The Mk 48 is an off-shoot of the M46 Mod 0, itself a varitant of , the US Army's standard light machine gun, the M249 SAW.

Unlike the 5.56x51mm Mk 46, the Mk 48 is chambered in 7.62x51mm.

Other modifications include the addition of rails for adding accessories such as the Trijicon ACOG sight (as shown in this photo) and the lack of a port for fitting M16-style magazines which is found on the M249.
