A Special Forces soldier, assigned to Special Operations Task Force Southeast fires an AT4 rocket at a heavy weapons range in Tarin Kowt district, Afghanistan, August 2012.

This striking image inidicates the extensive black-blast that the AT4 produces.

The AT4, or M136, is an 84mm one-shot disposable rocket-launcher that fires a fin-stablized round fitted with a shaped charge warhead.

A number of different flavors of AT4 are available.

The AT4 variant that fires a High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) warhead-tipped projectile is highly effective at taking out bunkers, buildings and fixed positions, making it suitable for use in Afghanistan.

The Special Forces, or 'Green Berets', are a U.S. Army special operations unit that specialise in foreign internal defense and unconventional warfare operations.
