S Army Special Forces soldier, of the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), mans the MK19 40mm grenade launcher fitted to a ground mobility vehicle (GMV) whilst his fellow soldier appraoches a simulated IED during pre-mission training.

Over the years, as the threat from IEDs has increased in Afghanistan, special operations forces have evolved away from using lighter vehicles such as the GMV towards Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles such as the RG-33.
