1997 - A co-pilot of a C-141B SOLL II (Special Operations Low Level) Starlifter aircraft sits in a the cockpit during a night training mission.

SOLL II aircrew - both with the current C-17 SOLL IIs and old-school C-141Bs - are/were trained to fly special operations missions in blacked-out aircraft while wearing Night Vision Goggles (NVGs).

C-141B SOLL II aircraft had their cockpits modified with displays, lighting and surfaces that allowed for use of NVGs.

A Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) pod in a housing under the aircraft's nose allowed the pilots to fly at low level at night.
