The Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon (ARP) with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) emerge from cover following a reconnaissance operation during a MRF training mission.

If time allows, the Amphibious Recon Platoon, comprising the MEU's Battalion Recon detachment, may insert several days ahead of a MRF raid in order to place the target under covert surveillance.

Intelligence gathered by the ARP will be used to plan the subsequent raid by the MRF's assault element, the MEU's Force Recon Platoon and the supporting security element, a rifle platoon from the Battalion Landing Team.

The Maritime Raid Force is a special operations formation drawn from various MEU elements.

It gives the MEU the ability to carry out small scale, short duration maritime interdiction and direct action raids.
