Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon Operator

A Recon Marine with the 13th MEU's Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon (ARP) pulls security during a Maritime Raid Force exercise.

This reconnaissance operator is armed with a M4a1 5.56mmx45mm carbine, fitted with Trijicon ACOG sight and AN/PEQ-16 laser.

He is wearing Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU) in desert MARPAT digital camoflague.

His MICH 2000 helmet is also covered in desert MARPAT and is fitted with a AN/PVS-14 Monocular Night Vision Device.

The blade antenna of his AN/PRC-148 radio is visible behind his M4a1's sight.

The ARP is the Battalion Reconnaissance contingent of an MEU's Battalion Landing Team.

ARPs carry out reconnaissance for the MEU's Ground Combat Element commander and operate as a component of the Maritime Raid Force, the MEU's special operations arm.
