The security element of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) set up a cordon outside a breached fence during a training mission.

Typically drawn from the MEU's Battalion Landing Team (BLT), the security element's role during MRF on-land operations is to set up a cordon around a target compound, preventing enemy forces leaving or interfering from outside the cordon.

On a maritime objective such as a ship or oil/gas facility, the security element may secure and search the areas not assigned to the assault element.

All elements of the Maritime Raid Force receive training and evaluation by Marine Corps Special Operations Training Group instructors.
