Armed with a MK 11 Mod 0 rifle, a sniper with the 11th MEU's Maritime Raid Force (MRF) engages a target through the window of a CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter during a training mission.

Scout Sniper-qualified marksmen with the MEU's Weapons Platoon and/or Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon form part of a MEU's Maritime Raid Force.

The MRF is the MEU's in-house special operations force.

It typically comprises of a Force Recon Assault Element, supported by a Security Platoon from the Ground Combat Element.

Depending on mission requirements, a reconnaissance element from the Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon (ARP), Radio Reconnaissance Teams, Scout Snipers and other elements may also be integrated into the MRF package.

Scout Snipers may provide overwatch from positions around a target compound on land, or from helicopters or ships around a maritime objective.
