A Marine undergoing training to become a member of the 3rd Radio Battalion's Radio Reconnaissance Team (RRT) provides security during a patrol during the Radio Reconnaissance Instructional Program (RRIP).

The RRIP is a series of exercises designed to test the physical and mental stamina of the teams before they undergo the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Course with their parent Marine Expeditionary Force's Special Operations Training Group.

Advanced training undertaken by radio reconnaissance Marines may include:

  • US Army Ranger School
  • USMC Mountain Survival Course
  • USMC Mountain Leader Course
  • US Army Jumpmaster Course
  • US Army Reconnaissance & Surveillance Leaders Course (RSLC)
  • US Army Pathfinder School
  • US Army Military Freefall (HALO/HAHO) School
  • US Army Military Freefall Jumpmaster Cource
Radio Reconnaissance Teams are an elite cadre within U.S.M.C. Radio Battalions who gather advance force signals intelligence (SIGINT) and carry out electronic warfare (EW) operations.
