Marines with Camp Pendleton's Special Reaction Team (SRT) take aim with M9 9mm pistols during active shooter training.

An 'active shooter' is an armed person or persons engaged on a killing spree, such as what occured during the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

Since Fort Hood, military tactical units have stepped up their training in order to respond to any such event in the future.

USMC Special Reaction Teams are a tactical unit that responds to crisis situations at the USMC installation where they are stationed.

SRTs use similar techniques and equipment to civilian law enforcement Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams.
