Members of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Provost Marshall Office (PMO) Special Reaction Team (SRT) conduct the avalache drill at a firing range.

'Avalanche' is a codeword that, when issued over a tactical team's radio net, signals a rapid tactical withdrawl from an operating area.

This may be in response to the sudden discovery of explosive devices or an overwhelming attack by enemy forces.

USMC Special Reaction Teams carry out law enforcement operations outside of the scope and capability of regular PMO units.

The foremost SRT operator is armed with a M4 5.56mm x 45mm carbine fitted with an EOTech holographic sight and Surefire X300 gun light.

The operator employing the ballistic shield is weilding a M45a1 CQBP .

45 ACP pistol, also fitted with a Surefire light.
