MK 16 SCAR-L

The MK 16 Mod 0 SCAR-L is a relatively new 5.56mm x 45mm carbine / assault rifle that has been selected by SOCOM to replace a number of existing weapons such as the M4A1 and the CQBR.

The MK 16 can be configured with a 14 inch barrel (standard), with a 10 inch barrel (CQC) or with a 18 inch barrel (LB). The weapon features an adjustable stock that can be extended, collapsed or folded over. The MK16 features a number of Picatinny rails for the mounting of accessories, including the Mk 13 Mod 0 40mm grenade launcher.

The MK 16 Mod 0 is complemented by the MK 17 Mod 0 of similar design, chambered in 7.62mmx51mm.

MK 16 CQC with 10" barrel. It is planned to replace the CQBR with the CQC.

MK 16 Standard with 14" barrel. The MK16 Mod 0 Standard will replace the M4A1 carbine carried by SOCOM units.

MK 16 LB with 18 inch barrel. The LB is designed for long range engagements. When fitted with suitable optics, the LB becomes a light sniper rifle and will fit into the niche currently occupied by the MK 12 SPR.
