Supervised by a member of City Of Charleston SWAT, a Police officer with North Charleston Police Department (NCPD), SC, Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT) team takes aim with a 37mm launcher.

The NCPD SWAT is an element of the Intelligence Led Policing Unit within the NCPD's Special Operations Division.

As with other SWAT units, it consists of officers with special training and equipment for dealing with law enforcement scenarios determined to be beyong the scope of patrol officers.

The launcher seen here is a Defense Technologies 37mm Gas Gun fitted with a Eotech holographic sight.

The launcher is made of steel except for the fixed polymer stock, pistol grip and foregrip.

A rail is mounted atop the receiver on which scopes may be fitted.

It is a single-shot weapon that is used to fire a selection of projectiles up to 100 yards.

These can include smoke, tear gas and illumination rounds.

SWAT may employ such a weapon to fire tear gas rounds into a building in order to incapacitate suspects inside.

They can also be employed during riots, firing tear gas to disperse crowds.
