A MH-47G Chinook helicopter lands on the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island as part of deck landing qualifications.

The 'Golf' model is the latest variant of the MH-47 Chinook operated by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (The Night Stalkers).

The MH-47G is a heavy-lift aircraft configured for special operations use.

It features a refueling probe and enlarged fuel tanks, a weather radar, terrain-following radar and a FLIR sensor.

The helicopter's avionics include a glass cockpit buil to the U.S. Army's Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) standard which features standardized LCS panels, communications and mission planning software.

The Night Stalkers have previously flown MH-47D and MH-47E versions of the Chinook.
