U.S. Army photo by Pfc. Connor Mendez

U.S. Army Rangers with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment perform Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction (FRIES) drills via a MH-47 Chinook helicopter flown by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

Rangers are an elite airborne light infantry special operations unit that are skilled in airborne insertion methods.

FRIES allows a a Ranger chalk to rapidly deploy and get in the fight from a hovering helicopter without having to wait for that helicopter to land.
