Task Force Dagger
Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-West (CJSOTF-West), otherwise known as 'Task Force Dagger' was comprised of the following elements:
US SOF:- 5th Special Forces Group
- 23rd Special Tactics Squadron
- elements of the 19th Special Forces Group
- Chinook and Black Hawk helicopter support from the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (160th SOAR)
- A & D Squadrons, British 22nd Special Air Service (22 SAS)
- C Squadron, British Special Boat Service (SBS)
- assorted infantry, aviation, signals and intelligence support elements incuding 45 Commando Royal Marines and RAF Special Forces flights of Chinook helicopters and C-130 aircraft
- 1 Squadron, Special Air Service Regiment (SASR)
- 1 Company, 4th Battalion (Commando), Royal Australian Regiment(4RAR)
Task Force Dagger was assigned the western part of Iraq and was tasked with neutralizing the threat from Iraqi SCUD launchers and carrying out reconnaissance and intelligence gathering operations in the area.
