U.S.M. C. photo by Cpl. Jonathan R. Waldman/RELEASED

A Marines assigned to the Force Reconnaissance Platoon (FRP), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), takes aim with a M45 close quarters battle pistol (CQBP) while training on the on the flight deck of the USS San Diego.

Note the light mounted on the M45's rail.

Note the two-handed grip employed by this Force Recon operator.

The fingers of his non-firing hand have close around the curled fingers of the firing hand.

The 2-handed grip, coupled with the weaver or isosceles stance, allows for accurate first and follow-up pistol shots.

Force Recon Marines will also practise shooting one handed, including with their non-dominant hand, which may be required in combat, if for example, the dominant hand or arm is injured or otherwise unusable.
