Marines with the entry element of the Special Reaction Team (SRT), Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, stack up and prepare to engage a simulate terrorist during a training exercise, March 2012.

USMC Special Reaction Teams are tactical units fielded by a given base's Provost Marshal's Office.

They respond to crisis scenarios and execute high risk law enforcement operations at their assigned location.

The SRT operators are wearing Nomex fire-resistant flight suits, balaclavas, kevlar assault vests, goggles and ACR kevlar helmets.

Note the plastic wrist ties carried by the team.

The above photo highlights the role of the rear security position in a typical SRT.

The last Marine in a SRT entry element provides rear security for the element when on the move and covers it during withdrawal.

They also serves as second-in-command to the team leader.
