MH-47 Chinook - Minigun

mh-47 chinooks - special tactics
U.S. Army photo by SGT. Marcus Butler

A Night Stalker Crewchief fires a M134 minigun mounted in the cabin of a MH-47 Chinook helicopter.

The minigun is mounted on helicopters throughout the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment's (160th SOAR) fleet of he;lcopters: the AH-6 Little Bird, the MH-60 Black Hawk and the MH-47 Chinook.

It's high rate of fire makes it an ideal weapon for supressing the enemy during an insertion or extraction at a hot landing zone (LZ).

The Night Stalkers are an elite Army aviation unit that fly helicopters in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF) such as Delta Force and the Navy SEALs.
