mh-47 chinook - special tactics
U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Christopher Callaway

Airmen with the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron helocast into the water from the rear ramp of a MH-47 Chinook helicopter flown by the Night Stalkers (160th SOAR).

Night Stalker Chinooks can carry out a range of amphibious insertion and extraction operations, including helocast insertion and extraction of personnel from the water via hoist or rope ladder.

The MH-47 is a variant of the CH-47 heavy-lift helicopter that has been extensively modified for the special operations role.

Packed with sophisticated sensors, communications gear and electronic countermeasures, the MH-47 is designed to penetrate hostile airspace in order to infiltrate, exfiltrate and resupply special operations forces.
