A U.S. Army Special Forces soldier fires a MK44 Minigun mounted on a MRAP vehicle in Afghanistan, December 2012.

The MK44, otherwise designated as the M134 minigun, is a 6-barreled electrically operated gatling-gun that fires 7.62mm x 51mm rounds at a rate of fire upwards of 3000 rounds-per-minute.

Miniguns can be found mounted on Special Operations Forces (SOF) aircraft such as the MH-60 Black Hawk flown by the Night Stalkers and on boats such as the SOC-R operated by SWCC Special Boat Teams.

SOF ground forces, such as the U.S. Army Army Special Forces, mount this fearsome weapon on vehicles such as GMVs and RG-33 MRAPS.
